China's new-energy heavy-truck segment continues to mature, and the recent Foton Auman Galaxy product refresh in Kunming offers useful signals for international buyers, dealers and sourcing teams. Rather than treating electric trucks as a single category, the lineup now splits into scenario-specific configurations for trunk logistics, bulk haulage and mining or construction dump operations. For fleet operators comparing total cost of ownership against diesel platforms, the focus on energy consumption, payload, charging speed and battery durability is directly relevant to procurement decisions.

What changed in the three-electric (3E) core

The refresh centers on the battery, electric drive and electronic control systems, supported by fast-charging upgrades and lightweighting. Foton describes four operational gains: lower energy use, lower curb weight, faster charging and faster return on investment. Together these are framed as the basis for moving new-energy heavy trucks from early adoption toward more standardised, high-utilisation fleet operation.

Beyond the hardware, the company has been building an integrated ecosystem around financing, charging infrastructure and after-sales service. For buyers evaluating an electric truck programme, this product-plus-service-plus-ecosystem model is worth noting, because vehicle uptime increasingly depends on access to financing, reliable high-power charging and responsive maintenance networks, not only on the truck itself.

Galaxy 5M: scenario-specialised electric tractors

Several Galaxy 5M battery-electric tractors were unveiled, each aimed at a different duty cycle. The 528 kWh megawatt-class super-charging version uses a Huawei-based super-charging alliance architecture paired with an electric-axle direct-drive setup. Foton states a 10–80% state of charge in roughly 18 minutes or less at 25°C ambient temperature, with charging and discharging efficiency improved by 3% versus the prior generation. Battery life is claimed to improve by 10–15%, supported by an 8-year / 4,000-cycle warranty, and the truck targets port, general cargo, coal and aggregate haulage.

A separate 450/600 kWh configuration uses a CATL Qilin-platform rear-mounted cell-to-body layout with a central drive architecture. Lightweighting reportedly removes 200 kg from the 450 kWh variant and 400 kg from the 600 kWh version. Charging is rated at 1.4C with 900 A or 1,200 A current, and a system round-trip efficiency of 95%. This configuration is positioned for bulk-transport buyers who prioritise payload, energy cost and turnaround time.

A third 400/600 kWh fast-charging variant, using an Irico battery, is rated at 1.25C with twin 800 A charging, which Foton says shortens charging sessions by around 11 minutes versus a conventional 600 A setup. The truck supports cold-start charging at -20°C and continuous operation between -35°C and 60°C, addressing year-round logistics in cold-climate or high-temperature regions. For exporters and dealers mapping products to local climate, this specification range is one of the more meaningful differentiators in the lineup.

Galaxy T and TM: pure-electric dump trucks for mining and infrastructure

For mining, earthworks and infrastructure projects, the Galaxy T mining dump truck and Galaxy TM construction dump truck have been reworked around four priorities: reliability, safety, service life and energy efficiency. Both use 400 kWh or 600 kWh CATL battery packs rated for more than 4,500 charge-discharge cycles and an 8–10 year service life, intended to spread depreciation across the typical high-utilisation cycle of an off-highway truck. Twin 600 A fast charging is said to improve charging efficiency by 50%.

Structural upgrades include reinforced suspension, high-strength steel frames and a dedicated high-ground-clearance chassis, combined with full-corrosion protection, six-sided battery guarding and IP68/IP9K sealing for muddy, flooded or dusty sites. The high-power drivetrain supports heavy load climbing, and the cab package adds passive and active safety systems, wide-angle visibility and anti-slip access steps. For fleet operators running quarry or infrastructure contracts, these are the specifications that translate directly into uptime and total cost of ownership.

For international buyers and dealers, the refresh underscores how Chinese new-energy heavy-truck makers are segmenting products by use case rather than selling a single electric platform.
